Start - 1
Right on track, out in the midst of the icelandic ice worst settlements. Here, the stones and pressure from the ice is splashed to a mishmash of terrain formations. Of course a section like this will give som time differences, but between Tina, Sofia and Elin, not much differences were to be found. Tina is the fastest, 15 seconds ahead of Sofia, who in her turn is 10 seconds ahead of Elin. Sara Grenmark, Sundbybergs IK, also shows great navigation skills this day. Anke Xylander gets a difficult start since she plans for a slightly leftcurved route choice and to secure herself by the marshes some halfways through. Before she gets there, she however loses the direction, and she suddenly finds herself on the path between controls 7 and 8! This little roundabout costed her three and a half minutes.
1 - 2
Towards the second control Tina J continues to build on her lead, and gets another split victory, 17 seconds ahead of Rose-Marie Forslund, IFK Mora.
2 - 3
After having missed the first control with three minutes, and also made some mistakes on the second, Emelie Holmström, OK Ravinen, gets a good race and wins the third section a second ahead of Sara Forsström, Finland. Totte Smedslund, involved in the Finnish Swedish Orienteering Federation (FSO), and working as chief trainer for the finnish national team, had organized a training camp in Idre for 24 good finnish orienteerers, and this day, they took part in our competitions. Sara was one of these runners, and best finnish lady in D21E this day, ending on a 10th place. Tina J lost 1,5 minutes which made Elin D the leader this far in the race.
3 - 4
Here another finnish runner steps up to show her skills: Yvonne Gunell. She wins the section with 8 seconds ahead of Rose-Marie F. The other competitors seem to have doubted away some ten seconds on this part of the course. Elin D is still in the lead.
4 - 5
Here the ladies suddenly are confronted with an easy control, and this in a landscape where the terrain is more normal in the detail level -- and what happens? Yes, _that_ happens! Sofia misses 2 minutes, Tina more than 4 minutes, Anke 6 minutes and Elin almost 8 minutes! After the great strain to navigate right through the first part of the course, here comes a reaction. Anke however went straight in to the control, but thought it had the wrong control number, which made her inspect the surroundings more closely. By the time she got back to the same post, she realised that everything was correct! Yvonne Gunell gets another split time victory just ahead of Sara Grenmark, who has had a smooth and safe journey this far and now is the new leader of the race.
5 - 6
Here is Yvonne Gunell's third straight split victory! She is 18 seconds ahead of Rose-Marie F. Sara G still in the lead. Both Tina and Elin make mistakes on 2 minutes each.
6 - 7
For this section Elin D is the fastest, 21 seconds ahead of Tina J and 23 before Yvonne G. Sara G is still in the lead...
7 - 8
...but not anymore, since she makes a severe error costing her 4,5 minutes. Annika Lundström, Sundbybergs IK, is fastest to the post, 7 seconds before Sara F and 12 before Elin and Anke. The largest mistake on the section is made by Yvonne G, who spend 7 extra minutes on this control. In the lead is now Emilie Holmström, a lead which will hold all the way through finish.
8 - 9
This section was common with Men21Elite, and also among them many made mistakes -- some very costly ones. For the ladies, only Rose-Marie F and Tina J seem to have got the post without problems. Elin is 37 seconds behind Rose-Marie.
9 - 10
Another section to harvest its victims. Rose-Marie again split time winner 4 seconds ahead of Tina. Elin 27 seconds behind. Sofia stops too early, which costs her over a minute. Anke drifts off too much to the north and loses more than 2 minutes.
10 - 11
Most energy left for a fierce sprint has Elin Dahlstedt, Leksands OK. She sprints home the last split time, and also the finish spurt.
